In this day where #hustle trends more than any other mental health or kindness keyword, we need more each day to keep us going. We are forced to rely on things to help us push through weeks, work, meetings, late-night calls, deadlines, assignments, that ONE big project and whatnot!

But, here is something that you might forget to note in the '#hustle of getting things done': your coffee intake!

  • How many cups of coffee do you average in a day?
  • Does your routine resemble wake up-coffee-work-coffee-work more-more coffee-sleep?
  • Have you ever tried to limit your coffee intake and failed?
  • Do you feel anxious or dizzy without coffee? Does coffee then leave you more anxious?

Let's head-dive into some quick facts!

  • Coffee is the most potent and consumed caffeinated beverage in the world. (Stat: Over 2 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day!)
  • Its effects usually occur within 15-60 minutes of consumption
  • Our bodies absorb caffeine very quickly.

How does it impact you?

While there are some benefits of introducing limited amounts of coffee in your diet every day, it may not work for everyone. How caffeine affects your body is dependent on various factors like your physiological build, how your body copes with it and the like!

Otherwise, it can have deteriorating effects on one's health, especially the people who tend to deal with mental health issues.

  • Caffeine overconsumption can cause insomnia, or worsen pre-existing insomnia.
  • You may experience sleeplessness, nervousness, and dizziness right after its effects begin to surface. Stress and restlessness are also common after-effects!
  • Caffeine can delay your body clock, too. This may result in the reduction of total sleep time - causing sleep deprivation. Also note, interrupted sleep.
  • Some people also report anxiety disorders, sometimes worsened.

What's the Takeaway?

No, do not totally do away with your coffee love. This is not to stop you from having coffee at all! (That's not even a solution!) After all, you did not become your own barista only to discard it!

Have coffee between 10 AM to 12 Noon - this is the ideal bracket that will let you stay focused during the day while giving your body ample time to dump its effects till nighttime.

So, now, we do have a way to sustain our love for coffee without the negative effects on our bodies.
